Graduation, Easter, The Pit and Elder Oaks... April 2011

We had the chance to travel back to Utah for Carly and Joel's graduation from Brigham Young University.  What a great fun PACKED week!   April 22nd was Carly and Joel's graduation, Joel's 26th birthday and Our 28th wedding anniversary.  Pretty good day.  We pack as many events into one day as we can so we don't forget! HA

We had graduation dinner at fun little placed called LaJolla Groves in the
River Bottoms of Provo.  It is Carly's favorite place to eat.  He we are with
the Goodmans.
Joel and Grant blowing out the candles on Joel's cake.
This is really a gross practice we do for birthdays.
I guess you just can't think about it too long.  Just eat it!! :)

This is one of our favorite pictures of Grant.
He had my glasses on looking at the graduation program
looking for Carly and Joel's name.  It kept him busy for a while.  One of my favorite
quotes of the day was...
"It is better to have character then be one."
Perfect picture for this quote!  :)
Happy Easter....We had a fun Easter Egg hunt at Carly and Joel's Apt.
The Easter Bunny even found Grant in Prove Utah.  How does he know??

Dad was trying to score the best candy before the hunt was even over!
The kids have this fun place that they LOVE to go called "The PIT".
Grant talked the kids into taking him there about 3 three times while while we were there.

Grant and one of his many tricks!  The kids said he was fearless...

Carly and Camille getting ready to jump in the pit from the rock wall.

One of Joel 's many stunts!

Steve had the great idea to go to the Spoken Word in the Tabernacle for Easter.  We got up early and headed to Salt Lake.  It was a wonderful program and then at the end we found out that President Monson was there.  He stepped out and waved to everyone.  It was wonderful to SEE and FEEL the spirit of the Prophet of God.  What a great experience.

Blake had asked us to look up the four Sister Missionaries that were with him in the MTC if we got to Temple Square.   Three had been transferred out but we found Sister Smith.  She is a darling girl and it was fun to find her.  Blake talks very highly of that group of missionaries he was with in the MTC.  The fun thing is that her companion was from South Africa...where Blake is serving now.
The highlight of the day was Elder Oaks and Grant!  We attend a sacrament meeting in the beautiful Joseph Smith Building and it just so happened to be the Ward that Elder Oaks attends.  We saw him exit and there were so many people around him that we just stood back and watched for a bit.  People started to clear out and Carly was brave and walked a little closer with Grant.  Elder Oaks turned around and put his hand right on Grant's head and said he was happy to see a future missionary.  Grant said ...I have a brother on a mission in South Africa.  Elder Oaks said, Well is he in Durban, Cape Town or Johannesburg?  Grant said, "He is in Botswana."  It was funny.  He then turned and spoke to Camille and Carly.  What a great blessing and memory that will be for years to come.

Matt Goodman (Carly's father in law) was fast with the iPhone and got this picture.  You can see Sister Oaks in the background with the dark hair.

That evening we had a wonderful Easter dinner at Steve's Sisters house and all but one of his siblings were there.  It is always so rewarding to be surrounded by family.  Especially during holidays.  We  sure miss family!!!
It was a great trip that did not end there....More to come.
